Question

Error: (Spubrowser.exe) or (Browser) has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Answer

NOTE: In Picture Motion Browser (PMB) 5 the error message will start with "Browser..." In older PMB versions the error message begins with "Spubrowser..."

This error message may occur if other files like spreadsheets, text, or executable (.exe) files are saved to a registered folder in the Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

  1. Start the PMB Initialization Tool.
    1. On the computer desktop, click Start.
    2. Point to Programs.
    3. Point to Sony Picture Utility.
    4. Point to Tools.
    5. Click Settings Initialization Tool.

  2. In the PMB Settings Initialization Tool window, click to select the Restore the program to its default settings box.

  3. Click the Start button.

  4. In the PMB Settings Initialization Tool dialog box, click Yes.

  5. Click the OK button.

  6. Start the PMB software.

  7. In the PMB window, click the Register Later button.

  8. Click the OK button.

  9. In the Information Tool window, click to remove the check mark from the Check for program updates now box.

  10. Click the Enable Automatic Notification button.

  11. Register folders to view.
    A. In the PMB window, click File.
    B. In the File menu, click Register Viewed Folders.
    C. On the left side of the Registered Folders to View window, browse to and select a single folder to register.
    D. Click the Register button.
    E. In the PMB window, click Yes.
    F. Click the OK button.
NOTE: If a window appears asking to analyze additional media files, click the Cancel button.
    G. Click the Confirm Viewed Folders button.
    H. In the Settings window, click the OK button.
IMPORTANT:Repeat steps A through H until the error reoccurs. The error will reoccur when you attempt to register the folder containing the erroneous files.

  12. After the folder containing the erroneous files has been identified, close the PMB software.

  13. Do one of the following:
    - On the computer, browse to the folder you tried to register and move the contents to a different location that will not be accessed by the PMB software.
    - On the computer, create a new folder containing only your video and image files that can be accessed by the PMB software.

  14. Restart the PMB software.

  15. Register the appropriate folder you modified or created in step 13.
