Ashima spends most of her field time in remote parts of India exploring the relationship between communities and their environment and education structures provided. Ashima is a freelance photographer and filmmaker, represented by National Geographic Image Collection and is the former photo editor for National Geographic Traveller India. In 2017, Time included her on a list of 34 female photographers from around the world to follow. Over the span of 20 years, she has worked on a diverse range of subjects: wading through mudflats to shoot flamingos for her award-winning Discovery Channel documentary, climbing sail masts mid-sea for National Geographic Traveller, and driving vintage cars across India for Cartier. She has been nominated for a Green Oscar twice, and her work has been published in National Geographic Traveller India, GEO France, ProPublica, Foreign Policy, Die Ziet, Vanity Fair, and has been part of Disney’s photography campaign exhibited at the United Nation’s Headquarters.
