Background defocus effects differ due to factors such as the photographing environment (brightness, distance from subject) and lens used. Refer to the following to enjoy more effective background defocusing.
To use "Background Defocus Control", set the shooting mode to Intelligent Auto or Superior Auto beforehand.
- NEX-3 / NEX-5
When setting Intelligent Auto, press the center of the control wheel.
When setting Intelligent Auto, press the center of the control wheel and select Bkground Defocus from Photo Creativity.
- Models other than those above
When setting Intelligent Auto or Superior Auto, use the control wheel to select (Photo Creativity), and then select Bkground Defocus.
How "Background Defocus Control" works
"Background Defocus Control" is a function to easily make the background crisp or defocused by changing the aperture.
When shooting in bright locations
The subject is bright, so the aperture is narrow. The point is thus more to the "Crisp" side. To blur the background more, move toward "Defocus".
When shooting in dark locations
The subject is dark, so the aperture is open. The point is thus more to the "Defocus" side. In this condition, the background cannot be defocused any more. If the point is moved to the "Crisp" side, the aperture will be narrowed, making the image even darker.
