    IMPORTANT:
    Before starting the update, we recommend that you back up to a computer or a memory card the image data that are saved on the digital photo frame's internal memory.

    This page provides instructions on how to update the firmware for Digital Photo Frame "DPF-W700".
    Please read the instruction thoroughly before installing the firmware update.

    Improved Functions

    • Continuous use of the photo frame in accordance with Facebook's specification changes.

    This software update also include previous update benefits and improvements:

    • Corrected an issue which is unable to receive emailed photos.
    • Even after the system update, the device may be unable to receive emailed photos due to specification change by the service providers.

    Applicable firmware
    Version: 1.39* or lower

    *For the operation to check the installed firmware version of the photo frame. If the version is displayed as 1.40, you do not need to update the firmware

    Check the version of the updated firmware

    1. Press MENU on the rear of the photo frame.
      The menu appears.

    2. Tap  Settings. The Settings menu appears.

    3. Drag with your finger to scroll though the list and tap to select System Information.
      System Information appears.

    4. Check Version.
      The numbers below version indicate the present firmware version of your photo frame.



      - If the version is displayed as 1.39 or lower, update the firmware in accordance with below procedures.
      - If the version is displayed as 1.40, you do not need to update the firmware.
    5. After you have checked the firmware version, tap (Back).
      The screen returns to the Settings menu.

    6. Tap (Back) again.



      Check the firmware version is completed.

    After the operations for updating, check the firmware version of the photo frame.
    When 1.40 is displayed for the version number, updating of the firmware is completed.

    Update the firmware

    Update can be made by either of the following two methods

    1. Update by the network (Wi-Fi)
      • The digital photo frame is equipped with wireless LAN function.
      • The firmware of this digital photo frame can be updated to the latest version by connecting to the Internet via a wireless LAN network.
      • Be sure to update according to the on-screen guidance when the firmware update display appears on the screen.
      • The latest firmware version is automatically displayed, when it is found.

    2. Update by memory card / USB flash drive
      • Connect your computer to the Internet, download the update file to your computer, and copy the file to a memory card or USB flash drive.
      • Inserting the prepared memory card or USB flash drive into the memory card slot or USB port of the digital photo frame allows you to conduct the upgrade.

    Please contact the Service Centres, if you encounter any problem while performing the firmware update.

    If the version is displayed as 1.39 or lower, update the firmware in accordance with the procedures starting from here.

    Preparations for firmware update

    Before downloading the firmware, please ensure that your computer is running one of the following operating systems and prepare one of the following recording media.

    1. Computer Requirements
      [Supported operating systems]
      • Windows 10
      • Windows 8
      • Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)
      • Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
      • Max OS X (10.4) or later

      2. * If you are using Windows 10, Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, please use it in desktop mode.

      Notes: Operation is not guaranteed for all PCs installed with a compatible OS.

    2. Recording Media
      One of the following types of recording media (Memory capacity is between 128 MB and 32 GB).
      • Memory Stick Duo
      • SD memory card
      • USB flash drive

      For details on compatible recording media, see "Compatible Memory Card/USB flash drive" in the Digital Photo Frame Handbook.

      Notes:

      • Operation is not guaranteed for all "Memory Stick" media, SD memory cards, or USB flash drives:
      • You should therefore always use a Memory Stick Duo that has just been initialized (formatted).
      • Please use a “Memory Stick Duo” that has been initialized (formatted) by your digital camera, or initialized (formatted) by the dedicated Memory Stick formatting software "Memory Stick Formatter".
      • Please use an SD memory card that has been initialized (formatted) by your digital camera.
      • Format the USB flash drive with the formatter provided by the manufacturer.

    Install

    Details

    Download update file

    1. Make sure no program other than your Internet browser is running.
    2. Read the terms of the End User License Agreement. After reading this agreement, click the Agree link at the bottom of the page.
    3. The download of the SML70V09.zip 58.6 MB (61,458,867 bytes) file will start.
    4. Save the file to the Desktop of your computer (recommended).

    Note: This is the dedicated update file for DPF-W700 only. This file cannot be used with other Sony digital photo frames.

    Unzip the downloaded file

    1. Using Windows
      • Right-click the saved file SML70V09.zip.
      • Click Extract All.
      • Click Extract in the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window that has opened.
      • The SML70V09 folder is now open on your computer's desktop.
    2. Using Mac OS
      • Double-click the saved file SML70V09.zip.
      • The SML70V09 folder is created on your desktop.
      • The unzipped SML70V09 folder contains the following update file:
        SML70V09.DUP
      • Depending on your operating environment, some file extensions ( .DUO / .dup ) may not be displayed.

    Note: Depending on your operating system, the file may be automatically unzipped when it is downloaded. You may also not be able to unzip the file using the procedures described above, depending on the operating system that you are using. In latter case, please use a decompression tool.

    Copy the update files to the recording media

    The following section describes how to update using a Memory Stick Duo. If you are using an SD memory card or USB flash drive, please replace Memory Stick Duo with your using recording media in the following explanations.

    Copy the update files to the Memory Stick Duo using either of the following methods:

    • If your computer is equipped with a Memory Stick slot
      Insert the initialized (formatted) Memory Stick Duo into the Memory Stick slot on your computer.
      Open the SML70V09 folder on your desktop, and copy the update file SML70V09.DUP inside it to the Memory Stick Duo.
      Drag and drop the update file to the root of the Memory Stick Duo, without creating any new folder for it.

    • If your computer has no Memory Stick slot
      Insert the initialized (formatted) Memory Stick Duo into the Memory Stick slot on your digital camera.
      Connect your digital camera to your computer using a USB cable.
      Open the SML70V09 folder on your desktop, and copy the update file SML70V09.DUP inside it to the Memory Stick Duo that you have inserted into your digital camera.
      Drag and drop the update file to the root of the Memory Stick Duo, without creating any new folder for it.

    Update the firmware

    Note : During the update, ensure that the digital photo frame and the AC adaptor are placed on a stable location, so that the AC adaptor may not be removed and the digital photo frame is not turned off. Loss of power during the update may cause the digital photo frame to malfunction.

    1. Plug the AC adapter attached to the set into the DC IN terminal on the rear of the digital photo frame and insert the power cord into the socket. The photo frame is automatically turned on.
    2. Insert the Memory Stick Duo containing the copied update file into the slot on the digital photo frame.
    3. Press MENU on the rear of the digital photo frame. The menu appears.
    4. Tap Settings. The Settings menu appears.
    5. Drag with your finger to scroll though the list and tap to select System Information.
    6. System Information appears. Tap Update Firmware.
    7. Tap Download. The copy of an update file is started to the internal memory of a digital photo frame.
      1. Although the display of a screen is download, the update file is copied to the internal memory of a digital photo frame.
      2. The text displayed on digital photo frame differ by the firmware version.

      Note:
      During the copy of update file, ensure that the digital photo frame and the AC adaptor are placed on a stable location, so that the AC adaptor may not be removed and the digital photo frame is not turned off.
      Also ensure that the Memory Stick Duo is firmly inserted into the digital photo frame during the update so that it cannot fall out.
      The digital photo frame may malfunction if power to the device is lost, or if the “Memory Stick Duo” is removed during the update.
    8. After the copy of an update file is completed, tap Restart to update.
    9. The update will automatically start after this device restart.
      After update finishes, a digital photo frame restarts automatically.
      The first time you turn the power on after the update, the digital photo frame will take longer to start than usual.
      Remove the Memory Stick Duo from the digital photo frame.

    Check the firmware version of the updated firmware

    After the update, please confirm the firmware version accordance. If the firmware version is displayed as 1.40, the firmware update was performed correctly.

    Note:
    If the version displayed is anything else than 1.40, or no version number is displayed: The firmware update was not performed correctly. Perform the firmware update again from the beginning.

    This completes the update procedure of the firmware.

    The update file in the Memory Stick Duo is not needed anymore after you performed the firmware update. Please remove it from your Memory Stick Duo.
