    About this download

    Firmware refers to the operational software that is embedded in the Walkman. This utility will upgrade the firmware to Version 1.03.

    Resolved Symptoms:

    • The playback occasionally breaks for a moment at five or six seconds after the start of the playback.

    Target Firmware: The firmware version of the following products should be less than or equal to 1.02.

    Target Model: NW-A805/A806/A808

    Verifying Firmware Version:

    1. Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    2. Press   /  /  /  button to select   (Settings), and then press  button.
    3. Press   /  /  /   button to select Common Settings, and then press  button.
    4. Press   /  /  /   button to select Unit Information, and then press   button.
    5. Confirm the Model and the Firmware version.

    Display Color: High Color (16bit) or higher

    For Windows Vista/Windows XP users

    • Log on with Administrator user name when installing this update program.
      If you are Windows Vista user, “Windows needs your permission to continue” message appears in the User Account Control dialog box. Click Continue to proceed, and follow the announcements.

    For Windows 2000 user

    • Log on with Administrator user name, or with the Administrator group account when installing this update program.
      * Service Pack 4 or later is supported in Windows 2000 Professional.

    Install

    Details

    Download procedure

    1. Set up the folder for storing the downloaded file on the hard disk. 
      Assuming the folder is named FWUP and is created in C drive.
    2. Save the downloaded file (NW-A800_V1_03.exe) in this folder.
    3. When the download is completed, use Windows Explorer to browse to the folder where the file is saved. Click View and click Details.
      * If the file size is the same as the download size (10,407 KB), the download is successful. If the size is different, please delete the file and download it again.

    Update procedure

    Note:

    • During this upgrade process, the unit requires a minimum of 15MB of free space.
    • Please transfer all tracks and data from the unit to the computer before carrying out the firmware upgrade.
    • It cannot be guaranteed that during the upgrade process, the tracks and data stored in the unit would not be damaged or deleted.
    1. Connect the unit to the computer.
    2. Quit all software running on Windows.
    3. Press the RESET button of the unit with a small pin, etc.
    4. Go to Start button on the task bar and click Run. The Run dialog box opens.
    5. Type C:\FWUP\NW-A800_V1_03.exe in the Open text box and click OK.
    6. The firmware upgrade program will be started.
    7. Please follow the instructions that appear to carry out the firmware upgrade.
      * Please do not disconnect the unit from the computer during updating.
      * During updating, USB connection is automatically controlled and “Connecting” indication is off with the control. The USB disconnect message may appear on some computers.
    8. When the message of completing upgrading is displayed, click Finish.

    Troubleshooting

    • Symptom : The computer displays “The update data file cannot be transferred because there is not enough available disk space in the device.”
      Solution: Delete some songs in the unit, or transfer them to a computer with available disk space of more than 15MB. Then, start the update again.
    • Symptom : The computer displays the warning message below:


      Solution: The update may have failed. Click Finish. Follow the Update procedure and try to update again.

    Upgrade Verification

    • Please confirm the firmware version when the upgrade program is completed. The upgrade program installation is successful when firmware version 1.03 is shown on the screen.
    1. Press and hold the BACK/HOME button until the Home menu appears.
    2. Press   /  /  /  button to select   (Settings), and then press  button.
    3. Press   /  /  /   button to select Common Settings, and then press  button.
    4. Press   /  /  /   button to select Unit Information, and then press   button.
    5. Confirm the Firmware version is displaying 1.03.

    Note: Please consult the local authorized Sony service facility for assistance with the Firmware Upgrade if there are any problems.
