There is no sound or low volume coming from the TV speakers.
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when there is no sound or low volume coming from the TV speakers.
Before you start
- If you have device connected to the 3.5mm jack on the TV, it may not be possible for sound to come out from both TV speakers and the device simultaneously, depending on your model. You may refer to How to get sound from headphones and the Bravia TV speakers at the same time article for more details.
- If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are posted on your model support page.

Check the following
- Check the Speakers setting on the TV. Ensure TV Speakers is selected. The steps below are an example.
- Open the Settings screen.
How to access Settings
- The next steps will depend on your TV menu options:
- Select Display & Sound → Audio Out → ;Speakers → TV Speakers
- Select Sound → Speakers → TV Speakers

- Increase the volume of the TV.
- Make sure the MUTE option of the TV isn't enabled.
- Make sure no headphones are connected to the TV.
- Perform a power reset on the TV.
- For Google TV or Android TV models: Refer to the article How to restart (reset) a Google TV or Android TV?.
- For other TV models: Refer to the article How to perform a power reset on a Sony television.
- If using a set-top box with a volume control, increase the volume of the set-top box.
Note: If the set-top box is connected using an Audio/Video (A/V) connection, make sure the A/V cables are connected securely to the appropriate video input on the TV.
- If the TV has an MTS setting in the audio menu, set it to MAIN or STEREO.
Note: If the source device is not set to stereo or is not capable of transmitting a stereo signal, sound may only come out of one speaker on the TV, and the volume will sound low. In this case, adjust or replace the source device.
- If the TV has a Simulated effect in the audio menu, turn it off.
- If the TV has a Volume Offset setting in the audio menu, set it to a higher or the maximum value.
- Ensure the TV speakers are not set as the center speaker.
Note: Some TVs allow the TV speakers to act as the center channel speaker when using a multi-channel receiver.
- Verify the speakers are set to ON in the TV menu.
Note: If the TV has audio output jacks and they are connected to a stereo system, then the speakers on the TV may be turned off. Some TVs require the internal speakers or the center speaker setting to be off before audio can be sent out to a stereo receiver via the audio out jacks.
- If the TV has a Headphone/Audio-Out settings in the Sound menu, set it to Audio-Out.
- Make sure all A/V cable connections are properly connected to the TV.
- Test the TV using another source like a VCR, DVD player or Blu-ray Disc player.
- Perform software updates and check if the issue will improve. For how to software update, refer to the article How to perform a software update.
- If using a set-top box, try resetting it. For details on how to reset the set-top box, refer to the operating instructions of the device.
- If the issue is not resolved after performing a power reset, reset the TV to the original factory settings.
- For Google TV or Android TV models: Refer to the article How to reset the Google TV or Android TV to factory settings.
