How to convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk?
Prior to the disk conversion, please note the following:
- The conversion is not helpful when there is no free space on the disk.
- Once the disk is converted to the dynamic disk, restoring it back to the basic disk is not possible, unless the disk is a slave drive. However, all the data will be deleted.
- To convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk, more than 1MB of free space is required on the hard disk drive.
Follow the steps below to convert a basic disk to a dynamic disk:
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click Computer Management.
4. Expand the Storage tree and click Disk Management.
5. Right-click the selected disk drive to convert and click Upgrade to Dynamic Disk.
6. Follow the wizard to convert the disk drive.
To revert a dynamic disk to the basic disk, follow the steps below:
1. Start Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click Computer Management.
4. Expand Storage tree and click Disk Management.
5. Right-click the dynamic disk and click Delete Logical Drive.
6. Click Yes.
7. Right-click the disk and click Revert to Basic Disk.
