It adopts the phase-change rewritable format just as DVD-RAM and CD-RW do. DVD-RW is rewritable, however, for about 1,000 times, which is comparatively less than DVD-RAM with rewritable capability of about 100,000 times. In order to distinguish DVD-RW from DVD+RW, it is sometimes called "DVD minus RW".
