Pairing procedure for Mac OS / iPhone devices
This guide will walk you through pairing with both your Mac and iPhone. The process is very similar for both, and we'll include pro tips for switching between them seamlessly.
Step 1: Prepare Your Headphones for Pairing
First, you need to put your headphones into "Pairing Mode." This makes them discoverable by your devices.

Turn on your headphones.

Enter Pairing Mode:

If they're new and haven't been connected before, they often enter pairing mode automatically when you turn them on.
- To enter pairing mode: Press and hold the
Power button for at least 7 seconds.
- The indicator flashes and you will hear the voice guidance saying Bluetooth pairing.

Note: If the pairing is not finished within 5 minutes, the pairing mode on the headphones is canceled. If this happens, place the headphones into the charging case again and start the operation from the beginning.

If a Passkey (Passcode, PIN code, PIN number, Password, etc.) is required, enter 0000.

Step 2: Connect to Your iPhone (or iPad)

On your iPhone, open the Settings app.

Tap Bluetooth and ensure it is turned on.

Under "Other Devices," you should see your Sony headphone's model name (e.g., "WH-1000XM4"). Tap on it.

Your iPhone will now pair and connect. You should see "Connected" next to the name.
Step 3: Connect to Your Mac

Click the Apple menu (
) in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS).

Click Bluetooth. Ensure Bluetooth is On.

In the list of devices, find your Sony headphones and click the Connect button next to them.

Once connected, they will appear in your list of "My Devices" and the status will show as "Connected."
Troubleshooting Tips

Your headphones don't appear in the list?

Ensure they are truly in pairing mode (flashing light).

On your Mac/iPhone, turn Bluetooth off and on again to refresh the list.

Move the headphones closer to your device.

The connection fails or is unstable?

On your Mac or iPhone, go to the Bluetooth settings, click the Info (i) icon next to your headphones, and select "Forget This Device" or "Remove". Then, start the pairing process from the beginning.

Switching Between Your iPhone and Mac:

Your headphones can be paired to multiple devices but can only play audio from one at a time.

On the device you want to use, go to the Bluetooth settings and select your headphones. If they are connected to the other device, this will often switch them over automatically.

Bluetooth pairing information missing:
- Once Bluetooth devices are paired, there is no need to pair them again, except in the following cases:
- Pairing information has been deleted after repair, etc.
- When a 9th device is paired.
The headset can be paired with up to 8 devices. If a new device is paired after 8 devices are already paired, the registration information of the paired device with the oldest connection date is overwritten with the information for the new device. - When the pairing information for the headset has been deleted from the Bluetooth device.
- When the headset is initialized.
All of the pairing information is deleted. In this case, delete the pairing information for the headset from the connected device and then pair them again.
