What to do if wireless network cannot switch a preferred wireless network access point automatically in Windows XP?

    Generally, if user cannot connect the first network access point in the Preferred Network bar, the computer will switch to the second network access point automatically,but sometimes it will not.
    Microsoft has confirmed this situation.
    Please refer to the following information for more details.

    Solution 1
    Once user cannot connect the preferred network access point, please try to enable wireless network again.
    Solution 2
    Please move up the position of network access point user wants to connect in the preferred network bar.

    Once user cannot connect the preferred network access point, please try to enable wireless network again.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

    2. Click Network and Internet Connections.

      If Classic View displays on Control Panel, please click Network Connections.
      Then, please perform the step 4.

    3. After clicking Network Connections, the window shown as below will appear.

       

    4. Right-click Wireless Network Connection.

    5. Click Disable.
      The Wireless Network Connection icon becomes grey and displays Disable.

       

    6. Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Enable.

       

    7. Click Close to close the window.




    Solution 2

    Please move up the position of network access point user wants to connect in the Preferred Network bar.
    1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2. Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

    3. Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties.

    4. When Wireless Network Connection Properties displays, please click the Wireless Network tab.

    5. Select the network access point user wants to connect in Preferred networks: bar, and then click Move up.

    6. Click OK to close the window.

    User can uplift the position of network access point in the Preferred networks: bar by performing the above steps.


    Remark
    If user disconnects the power adapter of the first network access point in the preferred network bar, user may not connect the second network access point.
